Making a Difference Through Employee Giving

Employee giving is a key way we support and strengthen our local communities. In 2023, employees raised more than $3 million for 2,600 charities around the world through our global match program.

Employees volunteering

At General Mills, we thrive when our employees are at their best and the communities where we live and work are healthy and vibrant. We encourage and empower our employees to apply their skills, expertise and passion to support causes they care about through employee giving and volunteering.

Double the impact: General Mills matches employee donations dollar for dollar up to $1,000 per year when they donate to a charity of their choice.

We asked employees how they give back to their communities using the company gift-matching program. Here is what they shared:

"The company match has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to contribute to causes that I'm passionate about. I'm honored to serve on the board of Urban Boatbuilders, where we provide experiential learning and apprenticeship programs for local youth. General Mills played a crucial role in connecting me with the organization, and through my time and financial contributions (doubled by General Mills' match program) we reached a record number of youth and continue to hear inspiring stories of transformation from our apprentices."

"I love the fact that General Mills does a company match. I’ve never worked for a company that provides that support and think it is an amazing tool for giving back. I’ll be using the company match this year to double my impact with a local food pantry in my community and the North Shore Animal League to support animal in need."

"Volunteering and giving back to my community are a big part of my life. It is something that I look to do through work-sponsored activities and with other local organizations like Habitat for Humanity. General Mills' match program is a great way to extend my support and double what I can give. I have been using the match program for as long as it's been available — it accounts for 95% of my family's annual giving!"

Continuous Improvement Leader

"I started using General Mills' match program to double my contribution to organizations and causes I care about. Two organizations that I currently support are Friends of the St. Paul Library and Hallie Q Brown Community Center in the Twin Cities. Helping my local community is something that is important to me and I love using General Mills' match program to give more than what I can myself."
