General Mills joins Minnesota NASCAR for charity race
July 7, 2010
For the first time, the General Mills Motorsports team has joined with other Minnesota NASCAR sponsors to co-host an exhibition race Thursday, March 8 at Elko Speedway that brings top talent and a great race to Minnesota – and raises funds for charity.
Events start at 11 a.m. at the Best Buy Rotunda at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., where fans have the chance to view the cars sponsored by four Minnesota-based companies and meet the drivers: Clint Bowyer (General Mills), AJ Allmendinger (Best Buy), Greg Biffle (3M) and Jason Leffler (Great Clips).
The “Give Back” race event idea was sparked during conversations between members of the General Mills Motorsports team and the other local corporate sponsors – 3M, Best Buy and Great Clips.
When the four corporate motorsports teams got the go-ahead earlier this year to start planning a Minnesota event, they immediately got into the groove.
The evening races at Elko Speedway, a NASCAR-sanctioned local track just 30 minutes south of the Twin Cities, caps off the day and will feature several races, including a dirt-race exhibition with only the four locally sponsored NASCAR drivers.
All ticket proceeds will be contributed to local and national charities: Minnesota Military Family Foundation, Victory Junction, and the Greg Biffle Foundation.
The night concludes with live music by Arch Allies.
