Job Overview

Product Development

  • Work in a hands-on environment
  • Be actively involved in a broad spectrum of activities, including process development, product formulation, designing unique unit operations and plant start-ups
  • Create new products and businesses in the tradition of superior quality consumer goods, such as Cheerios, Wheaties, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury dough products, Progresso soups, and Totino's pizza
  • Face significant technical challenges as the primary force driving a project from concept to shelf
  • Assume the role of innovator, project leader and technical problem solver as you team with our marketing, marketing research, manufacturing and quality professionals
  • Expand new product businesses and make major product improvements

Packaging Development

  • Find the best way to keep products fresh and at optimum serving quality
  • Deliver innovative and cost effective packages that excite consumers and sell more product, while working in conjunction with product development, marketing, purchasing and manufacturing
  • Lead production system start-ups and packaging improvement initiatives in a manufacturing facility or throughout the General Mills supply chain
  • Lead, develop and execute solutions for quality and performance improvement on the various technology platforms related to packaging (primary, secondary and tertiary packaging)

Education

Our Product Development professionals hold graduate degrees in food science, or bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering or food process engineering.

Packaging Engineers require a bachelor's degree in packaging, food process engineering, chemical engineering, or material science.
