Engineers at General Mills are the technical experts of our production systems, delivering a competitive advantage in the manufacturing and development of our products. Technical platforms include processing, packaging, milling, and electrical and control systems. As an engineer, you may support a particular business unit, or support a variety of business units in your location.

Job Overview

Engineers

  • Manage capital projects from conceptual phases through project close-out, involving processing/packaging system development, equipment design and selection, scale-up, installation and start-up.
  • Lead production system start-ups and processing/packaging improvement initiatives in a manufacturing facility or throughout the General Mills manufacturing system.
  • Work closely with other engineers, operations management teams, vendors, contractors, engineering firms and plant technicians.

Systems Engineers

  • Lead, develop and execute solutions for quality and performance improvements on our key technology platforms for both processing and packaging systems.
  • Improve system efficiencies, reduce ingredient losses, and design new product/process tests.
  • Develop, test and implement technological improvements for production systems.
  • Work closely with all levels of the organization, including other engineers, research and development, quality, plant management, and plant technicians.

Electrical and Controls Engineers

  • Design and implement electrical and control systems in support of business objectives.
  • Work with plant personnel, process specialists, project managers and research and development scientists.
  • Analyze, identify and resolve critical operational problems using the latest control and information technology, modeling methods and knowledge of General Mills processing methods.

Corporate Packaging Engineers

  • Manage packaging initiatives and projects from the conceptual phase through closeout.
  • Lead production system start-ups and packaging improvement initiatives in a manufacturing facility or throughout the General Mills Supply Chain.
  • Lead, develop and execute solutions for quality and performance improvement of various packaging-related technology platforms.
  • Work with other engineers, packaging research and development, quality, operations management teams, vendors, contractors, engineering firms and plant technicians.
